What is a Tenants’ Association?
A Tenants’ Association is a group of leaseholders who formally organise to represent their collective interests. Once enough leaseholders at New Central join — 50% of leaseholders on site — we can seek recognition from the landlord as a Recognised Tenants’ Association (RTA). An RTA has legal standing under the Landlord and Tenant Act to be consulted on service charges and major works, and to request information the landlord and managing agent must provide.
Why New Central needs one
Right now, individual leaseholders have limited leverage to question service charges or challenge how the building is managed. A Recognised Tenants’ Association changes that — it gives leaseholders one legal voice, backed by statutory rights to consultation and information, instead of everyone raising concerns separately and getting nowhere.
Where we are
We’re currently building support at the Tenants’ Association stage. Once 50% of leaseholders have joined, we’ll formally seek recognition from the landlord and, if needed, the First-tier Tribunal.
The committee
We will publish the list of committee members once the constitution is agreed and we hold the first AGM.
